Healthy veins

Healthy veins transport the blood pumped by the arteries into the body back to the heart; this is oxygen-poor blood. Characteristically, the venous vessels have so-called venous valves that only allow blood flow in the direction of the heart.

The veins are also supported in their activity by the muscles and the respiratory system. Veins are soft, deformable structures and their walls are largely made of connective tissue.
