ClosureFast endoluminal radio wave therapy

Analogously to endoluminal laser therapy, a vein can also be permanently sealed by radio frequency energy. Due to the uniform and reproducible heat, the collagen in the vessel walls contracts, collapses and thus seals the vein. The blood is then diverted back to the heart via healthy veins. The Venefitâ„¢ procedure uses segmental ablation technology where in each case 7 cm long vein segments are heated in 20-second intervals with the ClosureFastâ„¢ catheter.

After treatment of a segment, the catheter is repositioned for the next segment and the procedure is repeated until the entire length of the affected vein has been sealed. Using the Venefitâ„¢ procedure, longer segments than with the laser can be sealed in each time unit and the duration of treatment is usually shorter. The treated vein then transforms into scar tissue and is decomposed by the body.
